Shanghai Pics

So the last post only actually had Beijing pics so here are the last ones from Shanghai!

Walking along the Bund with Yang!!  In the background, you can see the Oriental Pearl TV tower (the funny looking one on the left)  and the tall builing on the right with the hole in the top that sort of looks like a bottle opener is the one with the highest bar in the world where we had drinks!

This is the China Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo.  It is the last pavilion remaining at the expo site and will be turned into a museum at the end of May.

Inside the pavilion, this large mural of a famous Chinese painting is actually interactive and the characters in the picture move.

There is also a “ride” in the pavilion that shows you some of the Green initiatives they are planning for China.

Sitting at the worlds highest bar in that bottle opener building!

And that’s the building lit up at night!

That is all there is from our China trip!  Thanks to everyone for reading and commenting and I hope you enjoyed following us around China!

Final Update!

So we are back in Canada – landed Friday night around 9:30pm.  Thought I’d put up some of the last pictures from our trip!  Some are from Beijing too!

We finished our trip in Shanghai where our friend Yang Fu from Ottawa met us!  She showed us around and we mainly did a lot of shopping and eating!  Perfect way to end our trip!

Temple of Heaven

Crowds getting out of the subway on May Day at Tian An Men Square

Guards at the Forbidden City

The very steep stairs on the Mutian Yu section of the Great Wall

Notice the brown-ish tinge to the sky?  That would be sand – it later rained sand on the Great Wall.

BIRDS NEST!!!!!
(For those of you who dont know, that’s the Olympic Stadium from the Beijing Olympics)

You can pretty much walk around wherever you want in the Birds Nest!

Across from the Birds Nest is the Water Cube – half of which has been turned into the “Happy Magic Water Cube”.  All the slides in here were manufactured in Canada!

There’s this one slide that you stand in a tube, on a platform and one the count of 3, the platform drops from under your feet!!  I’m pretty sure Emily and I were the only 2 people who went on the slide as the slide attendents were very excited that we were going on it.  Or because we were foreigners…

The Water Cube is AMAZING at night!!!!

Check out that air!

Sitting in the World’s Highest Bar

As a way to enjoy the Shanghai skyline while saving a bit, we are seated in the World’s highest bar on the 91 floor of a tower in Shanghai. Yes we’re not sure of the name of the tower but it’s nicknamed the bottle opener as when you see our photos you’ll no why. Yang is having white wine. Emily’s having a Mai Tai and they were out of Hoegarrden so I’m having Tiger Beer. See everyone tomorrow our flight is out of Shanghai. Connection in Vancouver and then straight into Ottawa. Believe we arrive just before 10pm. Don’t quote me on that. Parents you have flight numbers and I haven’t looked at our reservation recently.

Canadian Election

Shocked that the NDP are the official opposition. Duceppe quit?! The Greens got a seat. Ignatieff lost his riding. Looks like we missed a very interesting election.

Guessing Game

Guess which Emily had to buy another bag to put her many purchases in including three pairs of shoes. So is it Winnipeg or Ottawa?
